Migration to IBM WebSphere® Portal 9

It efficiently bundles tools, content, applications, and information for seamless utilization by all users, providing an optimized experience regardless of the device.

Why Migrate to IBM WebSphere Portal 9

There are numerous reasons to migrate to IBM WebSphere Portal 9.

  • The support for older versions of Portal, i.e., 6.1.x and 7.0 has ended.
  • IBM WebSphere Portal 9 is a lot faster than the older versions.
  • IBM WebSphere Portal 9 has new features like DDC and Script Portlet have made the development and integrations easier.
  • ConfigWizard addition certainly gives a complete roadmap for setting up the environment, either for installing, upgrading or migrating all in one place.
  • Theme Optimizer provides you the complete details of standards and issues of the theme developed.
  • Targeted content matches the best content with the most relevant group. Content authors do not need IT experience to configure a spot on a page to show targeted content.
  • Integration with IBM Watson Content Hub (WCH)

Migration Options

Option -1:

Automated Migration Roadmap

  • Perform the Installation of the WebSphere Portal 8.5 with CF14 on IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.10.
  • Migrate Portal from 7.x (or) 8.0 to WebSphere Portal 8.5 with CF14 on IBM WebSphere Application 8.5.5.10 using the automated existing tools such as WASPreUpgrade and WASPostUpgrade with the Local Vs Remote option.
  • Verify and validate the Migrated Portal environment ver. 8.5.
  • Perform the installation of IBM WebSphere Portal 9.0 on the migrated WebSphere Portal 8.5 environment using the IBM Installation Manager tool.

Option -2:

Manual Migration Roadmap

  • Perform the Installation of the WebSphere Portal 8.5 with CF14 on IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.10.
  • Install IBM WebSphere Portal 9.0 on IBM WebSphere Portal 8.5 with CF14 using the IBM Installation Manager.
  • Migrate Portal 8.0 to WebSphere Portal 8.5 with CF14 on IBM WebSphere Application 8.5.5.10 using the manual process (moving pages using xmlaccess, perform the WCM data migration using Syndication, Update the WebSphere configuration from 8.0 to 9.0 and etc.,)
  • Verify and validate the Migrated Portal environment ver. 9.0.

Web Content Manager Migration Roadmap



Cross version syndication is supported on the following environments.

  1. WebSphere Portal version 7.x with CF26 or higher.
  2. WebSphere Portal 8.0.0.1 with CF09 or higher.
  3. WebSphere Portal 8.5 or higher.

  • WebContent Manager Migration (WCM data migration) can be performed with WCM syndication directly from 8.0 to WCM 9.0 version using the cross version syndication.
